FACULTY DEVELOPMENT CELL- 2023-24

Faculty Development Cell in association with Research Centre under the aegis of IQAC organized Eight Days Online Faculty Development Programme on “Research: Methodology, Ethics & AI Tools” from February 1 to February 8, 2024. There were a total 110 participants.

DAY-WISE REPORT 

Day 1: Inauguration & Keynote Address

Resource Person: Dr. N. Panchanatham, Former VC, Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Tamil Nadu

Research should prioritize addressing social issues with a focus on accuracy and verifiability. Panchanatham stressed the importance of thorough preparation, drawing parallels to Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan’s dedication to teaching. Just as Radhakrishnan spent extensive time preparing for his classes, researchers should commit to thorough preparation, upholding ethical standards in their work. An effective research abstract should seamlessly connect with a literature review, highlighting any gaps in existing research. It’s vital to maintain impartiality, verify facts, and use rigorous methodologies to ensure accuracy.

Young researchers benefit greatly from presenting their work in diverse locations, gaining exposure that goes beyond mere reading and writing. Practical knowledge complements theoretical understanding, especially in complex areas like qualitative research, which requires nuanced understanding of human behavior. Defining research problems clearly leads to more accurate conclusions, with ethical considerations guiding the process—ensuring questions are valid and reliable. The essence of research lies in continuous learning and interaction, providing a deep understanding of one’s subject and fostering professional commitment to development.

Day 2: Systematic Analysis of Literature Review

Resource person: Prof. (Dr.) Amarjeet Kaur, Department of Accountancy, Dean, Faculty of Commerce & Management, Gurugram University, Haryana

The session commenced with an introduction to the concept and significance of research, emphasizing its necessity in academic and practical contexts. The importance and purpose of conducting literature reviews were elucidated, with a focus on classic patterns and frameworks such as Cooper’s (1988) taxonomy. This taxonomy delineates the key aspects of literature reviews, including focus, goals, perspectives, coverage, organization, and target audience.

Various types of literature reviews, particularly systematic literature reviews (SLRs), were explored. A clear distinction between traditional literature reviews (LRs) and SLRs was provided, emphasizing the structured and methodological approach of the latter.

SLR Methodology:

The process of conducting a systematic literature review was detailed through a comprehensive flowchart. This included methodologies for searching literature using keywords, utilizing primary, secondary, and tertiary sources, and employing the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) flowchart to guide the review stages—identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion.

Analyzing Literature Review:

The critical importance of analyzing literature reviews was underscored, highlighting the value of synthesizing research findings and critically appraising the quality of selected studies.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants gained a deep understanding of the systematic literature review process, covering research question formulation, search strategy development, study selection, data extraction, and synthesis.

They acquired methodological knowledge on diverse frameworks and methodologies applicable to systematic literature reviews, including adherence to PRISMA guidelines.

Critical appraisal skills were developed to assess the quality and relevance of research studies, enhancing the rigor of literature selection.

Participants learned effective search strategy development techniques, enabling them to retrieve pertinent literature from a range of sources.

They grasped the process of data extraction and synthesis to derive meaningful conclusions from selected studies.

Collaborative research skills were fostered, emphasizing teamwork and cooperation essential for conducting systematic literature reviews effectively.

Day 3: Research Design & Methodology

Resource person: Dr. Kuldeep Sharma, Associate Professor, Dept of Accountancy, Hinduja College, Mumbai

Extract of Discussion:

The Research Design- its overall plan, structure and blueprint was discussed. Examples to understand the concept of research objectives, questions, data collection methods, sampling, data analysis were cited. He explained about the nominal and ordinal data, metric and non-parametric tests. He spoke about the various methods of data collection. 

Day 4: Analysis of Data & Interpretation

Resource person: Dr. Padmini Ram, Director- Urban Ethnographers Private Ltd, Bangalore

1. Effective Utilization of Qualitative Data: Detailed methods were shared on how to leverage qualitative data effectively, accompanied by practical examples for better understanding.
2. Challenges in Collecting Qualitative Primary Data: Common issues encountered during the collection of qualitative primary data were highlighted, offering insights into overcoming these challenges.
3. Strategies to Address Data Collection Challenges: Dr. Padmini provided valuable tips and techniques to mitigate problems associated with qualitative data collection.
4. Management of Qualitative Data: Techniques for managing qualitative data, such as transcription, paraphrasing, and other organizational strategies, were discussed to optimize data handling.
5. Analysis of Qualitative Data: The session covered comprehensive methods for analyzing qualitative data, including indexing, data display techniques, observation using mind mapping, and various coding methods.
6. Utilization of Log Sheets and Quizzes for Primary Data Analysis: Dr. Padmini elaborated on how log sheets and quizzes can be effectively used in the analysis of primary qualitative data.
7. Activity Overview (Example Provided): An illustrative activity was presented to demonstrate practical application and reinforce learning objectives.
8. Question and Answer Session: The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, allowing participants to seek clarification and deepen their understanding of the discussed topics.

Day 5: Statistical Analysis with special reference to Regression

Resource person: Prof. (Dr.) Sunita Arora, Department of Commerce, Government College for Girls, Gurugram

Dr. Sunita Arora’s seminar on Methodology, Ethics, and AI Tools was a comprehensive exploration of key concepts in research methodology, ethical considerations, and the practical application of AI tools. The session was enriched with practical insights and examples, enhancing participants’ understanding of crucial elements in the research process.

Framing of Hypothesis – Null and Alternate:

Dr. Arora began by emphasizing the importance of framing hypotheses in research. She explained the distinction between null and alternate hypotheses, highlighting their role in guiding research questions and hypotheses testing.

Type 1 and Type 2 Error, P-Value:

Participants gained insights into the concepts of Type 1 and Type 2 errors, critical aspects of hypothesis testing. Dr. Arora elucidated the significance of P-value in hypothesis testing, providing a clear understanding of its interpretation and role in determining the statistical significance of results.

T-Test and Regression Analysis:

The seminar delved into statistical techniques such as the T-test and regression analysis. Dr. Arora provided a step-by-step explanation of these methods, illustrating their application in hypothesis testing and data analysis. Practical examples using Microsoft Excel were demonstrated to enhance participants’ proficiency in these statistical tools.

Level of Confidence and Selection Criteria:

Dr. Sunita Arora discussed the concept of the level of confidence in statistical analysis. Participants were guided on how to select an appropriate level of confidence, considering the trade-off between confidence and the margin of error.

Critical Value and Paired T-Test:

The session covered the determination of critical values in hypothesis testing and its significance in decision-making. Additionally, Dr. Arora introduced the paired T-test, demonstrating its application in comparing means of paired samples.

Installation of Add-In Packages in Microsoft Excel:

A practical aspect of the seminar included guidance on installing add-in packages in Microsoft Excel for statistical analysis. Dr. Arora provided step-by-step instructions, empowering participants to utilize these tools effectively in their research.

Regression Analysis and Measurement of Scale:

Regression analysis, a powerful tool in predictive modeling, was thoroughly explained. Dr. Arora elucidated the measurement of scale in regression analysis, emphasizing its role in understanding the relationship between variables.

Regression Practical Examples Using Excel:

The session concluded with practical examples of regression analysis using Microsoft Excel. Participants had the opportunity to apply the concepts learned during the seminar, reinforcing their understanding of regression techniques.

Day 6: Supercharging Research with AI- A Methodological Revolution

Mr. Ramsagar Yadav, Assistant Professor, Raheja College, Mumbai

Mr. Ramsagar Yadav captivated the audience with an insightful presentation, diving into the intricacies of leveraging AI to enhance research processes. He elucidated on various aspects, including creating AI-powered presentations, utilizing tools like TensorFlow, and exploring free AI resources available for presentation purposes. Mr. Ramsagar Yadav also introduced the audience to innovative platforms such as Bard Website and ChatGPT, showcasing their utility in augmenting research endeavors.

Furthermore, he conscientiously addressed the limitations of AI, ensuring a balanced understanding of its capabilities and constraints. Engaging the audience with interactive MCQ sessions, Mr. Ramsagar Yadav fostered a dynamic learning environment, encouraging active participation and knowledge exchange.

As the session drew to a close, Dr. Sachin Bansode extended sincere gratitude to Mr. Ramsagar Yadav for his enlightening discourse. Day 7: Ethics in Research

Researchers must adhere to strict guidelines that govern the conduct of studies involving human or animal subjects. Furthermore, researchers must disclose any conflicts of interest and ensure their methods are scientifically rigorous and transparent. Day 8: Zotero: An easy tool for referencing

The highlight of the 8th-day session was Dr. Shibab Illias’ comprehensive presentation on Zotero, an acclaimed referencing tool designed to streamline the research process. Dr. Illias

elucidate various aspects of Zotero, focusing on its user-friendly interface, powerful features, and utility in academic research.
