Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) - BAF

The University of Mumbai had initiated the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) course in 2003-04. One of the primary aims to introduce this course was to improve self-employment and provide benefits to the organizations by providing them with suitable trained individuals in the field of Accounting & Finance through the mediums of positive class interaction, practical projects, presentations, meaningful industrial visits, practical training, Job orientation and successful placements.

Program objectives or program outcomes

  • Accounting graduates will demonstrate a base of knowledge, skills and professional orientation consistent with the accounting profession.
  • Students will demonstrate a general tax consciousness, including an understanding of the role of taxation in society and the development of skills related to the recognition of the tax problems.
  • Students will develop a foundation of tax knowledge, including the development of competence with respect to general concepts of taxation, procedural rules and their application, and tax planning.
  • Students will understand the traditional cost accounting concepts such as cost flows, product costing, variance analysis, budget process, decision making performance analysis, and responsibility accounting.
  • Students will be able to use the results of analytical procedures to identify “red flags” of audit risk.
  • Students will be able to apply critical-thinking, decision-making, and analytical problem-solving skills in an accounting environment.
  • Accounting graduates will demonstrate ethical decision making that is relevant in the profession.
  • Accounting graduates will demonstrate analytical problem solving that is inherent in the profession.

Our Esteemed Institution has introduced the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) Course from Academic Year 2011-2012. It has a strong emphasis on developing analytical skills and offers a solid grounding and professional competence in all aspects of commerce required for careers in the business and corporate sectors. This program also facilitates students to be market ready which helps to give them an edge over their careers.

While the program is primarily theoretical and accountancy based, there is a good blend of projects, case studies and industrial visits to enable a student to get well- versed with the functioning of the Industry. There is also an exposure to working in the industry during the Summer Internship. Internship is an important aspect of the course as it enables them to understand what exactly the needs of the market are and how they can be an asset. Programs which are a compulsory component of the program.

  • The  Bachelor of Commerce( Accounting & Finance) Program conducts various activities all year around with the perspective of overall development of a learner. Some of the activities provide insight into the working of the department and the college, whereas a few  activities are for the overall development of the students. Right from holding orientation for the students, monthly Parents Teacher Meeting, Intra- collegiate events like Battle of Brains, Relaxant etc for the students. Students are engaged and involved in the activities for their holistic development.
    • Orientation– Orientation is conducted every year for the students of First Year. The students along with their parents are orientated regarding syllabus, exam pattern, college activities & rules & to make the students aware about the program.
    • PTA Meetings – PTA Meetings are conducted on a regular basis during the year for Semester I, II, III, IV, V and VI, (2 in each semester) to inform the parents about their ward’s attendance and consequences for default in attendance below the minimum required.
    • Guest Lecture, Industrial Visit & Quiz Competitions– are conducted throughout the year for the students. This gives the students various industrial exposure and an enriching learning experience.
    • Remedial Lectures– Remedial Lectures are conducted for the students to assist    them in the weaker subjects and support them in their learning process.
    • As a part of innovation, a curricular activity called, “Notes Making” was conducted to teach students how to make notes even in virtual lecture setup on the google meet platform. Students actively participated and benefitted from the event.
    • A national level conference on Implications of the Internet on Copyrights and Trademarks was organized by BAF programme in association with IQAC cell. There were participants from all over India and it was an enriching learning experience for students as well as participants.
    • Netiquettes was conducted virtually on google meet platforms. The students were taught about using the internet with etiquettes and responsibly.

     

    Extra Curricular Activities:

    Battle of Brains: This  is an educational cum fun event where a large number of students participate and benefited from the event. It is a one-day quiz competition event for students of college, conducted in the month of February. This is completely organized by the students and this is done in a very enthusiastic manner. Students’ participation is in large numbers.

    Relaxant: It is a one-day adventurous event to relax the minds of students conducted in the month of August-September. This is done to make sure students have a balance of work and play.

During the academic year 2021-22, Time Management a value-added 30 hours course work program was initiated by the Department of BAF in association with placement cell was organized for Degree and SFC students. Time management is characterized by the process through which an individual or group effectively accomplish its objectives. Control over one’s time involves establishing specific target and determining which activities are most important towards achieving the target.

Objectives:

  1. To acquaint the students with Time Management skills.
  2. To make students understand the processes of managing time constraints, stress management due to time management.

Time management plays a very important role in every field specially students’ life. Time Management helps the students for better understanding, proper planning, prioritizing and completing any task successfully. It is very imperative that time management is a required skill for any role in one’s personal or professional life to boost the productivity of a person. The total enrolled students were 113 out of which we had successful completion of 09 students with presentation and course completion both.  Keeping in mind the same, we have organized time management value added course module wise and faculties of time management were from our core team of department of BAF as well as Placement Cell members too.

The course was continued in the academic year 2022-23 as well.
